"Beware of Frenemies: Don't Let Them Drag You Down"

Apr 05, 2024

Ever heard the saying "misery loves company"? Well, it's true, especially when it comes to some friendships. Imagine a friend who's always in the middle of drama, always complaining about how bad their life is, especially about being single and unhappy. They seem to always be there when things go wrong, but instead of helping, they kinda make things feel worse. Why do we even listen to them? This is the type of person who, under the disguise of "helping," actually loves it when others are as unhappy as they are.

Now, think about it. If someone is always stuck in their own world of complaints and negativity, always talking about their failed dates and how lonely they are, why would we think they can give us good advice about our lives? It’s like taking swimming lessons from someone who's never been in the water. It just doesn’t make sense.

This is where we need to be real with ourselves. If our "friend" is someone who's always down and tries to pull us into their gloom, we’ve got to question if they’re really a friend. Real friends want to see us happy and succeeding, not joining them in the Misery Club.

The harsh truth? Hanging out with these types of "friends" is like shooting ourselves in the foot and then wondering why it's hard to walk. It's kinda silly, right? We might not see the damage right away, but give it 5 to 10 years, and we'll look back, facepalming, wondering why we ever thought it was a good idea to listen to them. By then, we might have missed out on so many good opportunities because we were too caught up in negativity.

So, let’s not be those people who only realize way too late that they’ve been hanging out with frenemies instead of real friends. It’s like eating junk food and wondering why we’re not healthy. It's pretty clear it’s not good for us, yet sometimes we do it anyway. Let's smarten up and surround ourselves with people who are actually good for our mental and emotional health. Those who uplift us, not those who drag us down into their own unhappy world.

Remember, life's too short to spend it with people who don't help us grow. Let's choose friends who make us feel like we can take on the world, not those who make the world feel like it's against us.
